Low Pressure System Gives Hope For Gujarat

Current Weather Conditions on 21st July 2012 @ 11.00 am.

Yesterday's Low Pressure from the Bay of Bengal is over Odisha and adjoining Bay of Bengal. Associated Cyclonic Circulation extends
upto Mid Tropospheric levels, tilting Southwestwards with height.

The axis of the monsoon trough at mean sea level passes through Anupgarh, Jaipur, Jhansi, Satna, Ambikapur, Angul, centre of the low pressure area over Odisha and thence Southeastwards to East Central
Bay of Bengal. It extends upto 1.5 Kms above sea Level.

The off-shore trough at mean sea level persists from south Maharashtra coast to Karnataka coast.

Forecast:

The Low Pressure is expected to track Northwestwards through Chhatishgarh, East M. P. and reach Central M.P. by 23rd July. The Associated Cyclonic Circulation at various levels will track some what south of the above track. The 500 Mb. Circulation is expected to track Westwards over Vidarbha and vicinity, and subsequently over whole Maharashtra and adjoining M.P. border areas by 23rd July.
The Low Pressure is expected to either fizzle out over Madhya Pradesh or track Northwards on 24th July.

Under the cumulative effects of the Low Pressure and the UAC, heavy rainfall is forecast for all the above States and Andhra Pradesh.

South Gujarat & Central Gujarat is expected to benefit from UAC by 23rd July. Bhavnagar Amreli Districts expected to get light rain with medium rain in a few places. Rest of Saurashtra could get scattered showers around Monday 23rd July. The outcome of rain is dependent on the long distance the System travels.

Note: Currently there is a Depression System in the South China Sea. The forecast track is mainly westwards and so there is good possibility of pulse effect in the Bay of Bengal to generate another System a week from now.
