Monsoon Active In South India But Forward Move Halted

Current Weather Conditions on 15th June 2009 @ 1.30 pm.

The Southwest Monsoon 2009 has not advanced on the Western side from its position on 7th June near Ratnagiri. The eastern arm of the Monsoon has not budged at all from its 25th May position.The Axis of Monsoon Low which should be in place at 994 to 996 mb. and should be running from West Bengal to Barmer Rajasthan. However, currently, this axis has moved towards the foothills of Himalayas. There are convective clouds in the Arabian Sea lying West of Kerala and Karnataka.

Forecast: Heat wave will start from 16th June and the area covered by heat wave should increase too for the next few days. This will restabilise the Monsoon Low by 18th to 20th June.

Forecast: Rajkot & Saurashtra & Gujarat

Monsoon is not likely to reach Gujarat within one weeks time. Temperatures are expected to be near normal to above normal with humidity and scattered clouds.

Rain Forecast: 15th June to 21st June

Kerala & South Coastal Karnataka:
15 Cms to 20 Cms. of rain with isolated places rain could go upto 25 Cms.

North Coastal Karnataka & Goa:
10 Cms to 15 Cms of rain.

South Konkan:
2 Cms. to 5 Cms.

Interior Maharashtra:
Scattered showers to 2 Cms.

Mumbai
Monsoon is not expected to reach Mumbai this week.
