Monsoon Advance Over Southeast Bay Of Bengal & Andaman Sea

Advance of Southwest Monsoon 2012

Current weather conditions
1. Persistence convection over Andaman Sea and Southeast Bay of Bengal.

2. Strong south-westerly cross equatorial flow of the order of 35-45 kmph up to the depth of 600 hPa during past 48 hours over south Bay of Bengal.

3. Persistent cloudiness over Andaman Sea and Southeast Bay of Bengal.

4. Fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls over Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Advance of Monsoon

With the above favourable conditions, Southwest monsoon has advanced today, 23rd May 2012, over some parts of southeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.

Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM)

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passes through Lat. 5°N/ Long. 85°E, Lat. 9°N/ Long. 90°E, Hut Bay, Lat. 12°N/ Long. 95°E and Lat. 14°N/ Long 98°E.

Forecast
Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of south Bay of Bengal and remaining parts of Andaman Sea during next 2-3 days.
