Monsoon Moves Rapidly Over Northern India

Advance of Southwest Monsoon 2009

Current Meteorological Conditions

o An east-west seasonal trough at mean sea level extending from Sriganganagar to head Bay of Bengal through Patiala, Lucknow, Patna and Malda.
o Upper air cyclonic circulations one over Punjab and neighbourhood and the other circulation over Gujarat and adjoining south Pakistan and neighbourhood.
o Fairly widespread rainfall over Punjab, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand. East Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh.

Advance of monsoon

With above favourable conditions, southwest monsoon has further advanced today, i.e. 30th June, into remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, entire Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, some more parts of east Rajasthan and many parts of Punjab and Haryana.

Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM)

The northern limit of southwest monsoon passes through Lat. 25.0°N / Long. 60.0°E and Lat. 25.0°N /Long. 65.0°E, Udaipur, Jaipur, Pilani, Hissar, Ludhiana and Jammu.

Forecast

Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of Punjab and Haryana and some more parts of Rajasthan during next 2 days.
