Extreme Rainfall Over Valsad District of South Gujarat

Current Weather Conditions on 12th July 2013 @ 12.00 pm.

There has been very heavy rainfall over South Gujarat especially Valsad District where most places received extremely heavy rainfall. The rainfall for past 24 hour period ending 8.30 am. of 12th July are Valsad 461 mm., Pardi 313 mm., Umergaon 146 mm., Dharampur 130 mm. and  Kaprada 128 mm. Other places that received more than 100 mm. rainfall are Kadi 153 mm., Pavi Jetpur 140 mm., Umrada in Saurashtra 110 mm. There has been a report of very heavy rainfall in Jamnagar today the 12th July.
 
The Low Pressure that developed on 10th July over Odisha and adjoining Bay of Bengal has strengthened to a Well Marked Low Pressure and is currently located over Odisha and adjoining Chhatishgarh with 996 Mb. Central Pressure. Associated Cyclonic Circulation extends upto 7.6 kms above sea level tilting Southwestwards with height.
 
The axis of monsoon trough at mean sea level passes through Bikaner, Sawai Madhopur, Damoh, Pendra, Center of Well Marked Low Pressure area, Paradip and thence Southeastwards to East Central Bay of Bengal.
 
Under the influence of the System over Odisha & Chhatishgarh, the off shore trough at mean sea level from South Gujarat coast to Kerala coast has strengthened.
 
An East-West shear zone lies at 700 Mb. level (about 3.1 Kms. above sea level) between  Lat. 20° N & 22° N  from Saurashtra and vicinity towards Chhatishgarh vicinity. This is clear from the chart below:

Global Tropical Hazards & Benefits Outlook – CPC suggests that weekly rainfall for 10th to 16th July will be above average over most parts of Peninsular and Central India.

The Well Marked Low Pressure is expected to track towards Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours while the associated Cyclonic Circulation will track along Southwest of the Low and will be over Maharashtra and adjoining M. P. border area in next 24 hours.

 

Forecast: 12th to 14th July

 

Under the influence of multiple favorable weather parameters, rainfall over Saurashtra, Gujarat will continue till 14th July. This round of rainfall will also be benefit Kutch. Very Heavy rainfall expected over South Gujarat, Central Gujarat, parts of North Gujarat, and parts of Saurashtra. Rest of the areas will receive medium rainfall.
