Minimum Temperature Within Two Degrees Of Normal Throughout India

Current Weather Conditions on 14th December 2011 @ 11.30 am.

The Minimum Temperatures are within 2 Degrees C. of Normal for whole of India as can be seen from the map below. Rajkot had Minimum Temperature of 10.7 C. for two consecutive days 13th and 14th morning. The Normal Minimum temperature for Rajkot is 12 C. for this time of the year.



Forecast: 14th to 18th December 2011 for Saurashtra, Kutch & Gujarat

The Minimum Temperature is expected to be within 2 Degrees of normal Minimum Temperatures for most places of Saurashtra, Kutch & Gujarat. There is no possibility of Cold Wave conditions over Saurashtra, Kutch & Gujarat during the forecast period.

Criteria for Cold Wave & Severe Cold Wave as per IMD:

Wind chill factor plays an important role and brings down the actual minimum temperature depending upon the wind speed. The actual minimum
temperature of a station should be reduced to “wind chill effective minimum temperature (WCTn)” based on wind chill factor using the enclosed table Enclosure I, WMO No. 331/ Tech note No. 123 on “The assessment of human bio-climate. A limited review of physical parameters, 1972). For declaring “Cold Wave” and “Cold Day” WCTn should only be used. If WCTn is 10°C or less, then only the conditions for cold wave should be considered.
a) When normal minimum temperature is equal to 10°C or more.
Cold Wave Departure from normal is -5°C to -6°C.
Severe Cold Wave Departure from normal is -7°C or less
b) When normal minimum temperature is less than 10°C.
Cold Wave Departure from normal is -4°C to -5°C.
Severe Cold Wave Departure from normal is -6°C or less.
