Cold Spell Ends Over Saurashtra, Gujarat & Kutch – Cloudy Day Or Two Is Forecast

Current Weather Conditions on 20th January 2014 @ 11.00 am.

Current cold spell over Saurashtra Gujarat & Kutch has ended today. The Minimum Temperature over most places has increased and are now normal or few degrees above normal. However, the Maximum Temperature at most places ruled lower than normal by a degree or two. The Minimum Temperature at Ahmedabad was 14.2 which was about 3 C. above normal, Naliya was 11.4 C. about 1 C. above normal and Rajkot was 11.7 C. which is just normal for this time of the year. It has been very windy last five six days. The winds were mainly from the Northerly or Northeast direction.

The western disturbance as a trough in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis
at 5.8 kms a.s.l. now runs roughly along Long. 58° E to the north of Lat. 20° N. The trough/wind discontinuity in the lower levels now extends from Lakshadweep area
to Gujarat Region across east central Arabian Sea. An upper air cyclonic circulation extending upto 2.1 kms a.s.l. lies over south Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat Region.

The Minimum Temperature is expected to become normal or above normal during the forecast period and the Maximum Temperature is also expected to increase and will be near normal during the forecast period.

Due to the cumulative effects of western Disturbance over North India and trough/wind discontinuity in the lower levels vicinity of Gujarat, there is very high chance of unseasonal rain/shower over some parts of Central & South Gujarat. There is 50% chance of unseasonal isolated showers over adjoining Coastal regions of Saurashtra.

Rest Of India: 21st to 24th January 2014:

Due to the above parameters light Rainfall expected over North India, M.P. Rajastan Border areas. Unseasonal rainfall/showers expected over an area stretching from New Delhi to Northern & Western M.P. to Central Gujarat, South Gujarat and adjoining Maharashtra up to Mumbai till 22nd January and subsequently lighter quantum ( showers) on 23rd and 24th vicinity South M.P. – adjoining Maharashtra border areas.
