THE EXTREMELY SEVERE CYCLONIC STORM, \u2018CHAPALA\u2019 OVER WESTCENTRAL ARABIAN SEA MOVED WEST-SOUTHWESTWARDS WITH A SPEED OF ABOUT 12 KMPH DURING PAST 6 HOURS, SLIGHTLY INTENSIFIED FURTHER AND LAY CENTERED AT 0900 UTC OF TODAY, THE 30TH OCTOBER 2015 NEAR LATITUDE 14.2\u00b0N AND LONGITUDE 60.8\u00b0E, ABOUT 1390 KM WEST-SOUTHWEST OF MUMBAI(43003) AND ABOUT 780 KM EAST-SOUTHEAST OF SALALAH (41316) (OMAN). IT WOULD MOVE WESTWARDS, INTENSIFY FURTHER DURING NEXT 12 HOURS AND CROSS YEMEN AND ADJOINING OMAN COAST BETWEEN LATITUDE 15.0\u00b0N AND 16.0\u00b0N AROUND MIDNIGHT OF 2ND NOVEMBER, 2015. Observations:<\/h3>\n

The Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm “CHAPALA” is now over Westcentral Arabian Sea and could reach Super Cyclonic Storm strength. However, IMD\/RSMC has to confirm the same.<\/strong> As per International Weather Agencies the winds are blowing at 250 km.\/hour with gusts of 305 km\/hour based on average winds on 1 minute basis as compared to IMD’s basis of 3 minute average wind speed. The System is expected to track towards Yemen\/Oman next few days.<\/h3>\n

Forecast: Saurashtra, Gujarat & Kutch: 30th October to 3rd November 2015<\/h3>\n

In Gujarat the wind is expected to be from North, Northeast & then East on most days during the forecast period depending upon the location of the System. The weather is expected to be dry on most days. However, some peripheral clouding associated with the System has already come over Saurashtra & Gujarat and so it will be cloudy for few days. The Maximum temperature will be near normal or about 1 C below normal and the Minimum Temperature will be normal or about 1 to 2 C below normal during the forecast period.<\/h3>\n
