Advance of Southwest Monsoon 2009
Current Meteorological Conditions
o An east-west seasonal trough at mean sea level extending from Sriganganagar to head Bay of Bengal through Patiala, Lucknow, Patna and Malda.
o Upper air cyclonic circulations one over Punjab and neighbourhood and the other circulation over Gujarat and adjoining south Pakistan and neighbourhood.
o Fairly widespread rainfall over Punjab, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand. East Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh.
Advance of monsoon
With above favourable conditions, southwest monsoon has further advanced today, i.e. 30th June, into remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, entire Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, some more parts of east Rajasthan and many parts of Punjab and Haryana.
Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM)
The northern limit of southwest monsoon passes through Lat. 25.0°N / Long. 60.0°E and Lat. 25.0°N /Long. 65.0°E, Udaipur, Jaipur, Pilani, Hissar, Ludhiana and Jammu.
Forecast
Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of Punjab and Haryana and some more parts of Rajasthan during next 2 days.

On June 29th Afternoon As Per IMD:
The southwest monsoon has further advanced today, the 29th June, 2009 into remaining parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and west Bengal & Sikkim, entire Bihar, Jharkhand, many parts of east Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand and some parts of east Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh. The northern limit of southwest monsoon passes through Lat. 25.0°N / Long. 60.0°E and Lat. 25.0°N / Long. 65.0°E, Udaipur, Jaipur, Dholpur, Etawah, Lucknow, Kheri, Dehradun and Uttarkashi.

Current Monsoon Status on 29th June 2009 @ 1.00 pm
The northern limit of Southwest Monsoon passes through Lat. 23.0°N / Long. 60.0°E and Lat. 23.0°N / Long. 65.0°E, Bhuj, Baroda, Indore, Hoshangabad, Rajnandgaon, Cuttack, Balasore, Bankura and Gangtok till 28th June.
Forecast: Conditions are conducive for further advancement of Southwest Monsoon over some more parts of Central India and remaining parts of West Bengal & Sikkim. Monsoon is expected to set in over parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and East Uttar Pradesh in the next two days.
The Western arm of Monsoon is not expected to advance significantly.
Rain Forecast period: 29th June to 5th July 2009
Saurashtra: 75 % of Saurashtra is expected to get 3 Cms. to 6 CMs. of rain, while 25 % of Saurashtra (including the Coastal areas) will get 6 Cms. to 12 Cms. of rain.
South Gujarat: 10 Cms. to 15 Cms.
Central Gujarat: 4 Cms. to 8 Cms.
North Gujarat: Hit or Miss Thunders
Rest of India:
Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Goa, Konkan and Andaman & Nicobar Islands will get 15 Cms. to 20 Cms. with Isolated places in this region getting upto 30 Cms. of rain.
West Bengal, Orissa, Chhatishgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, East Madhya Pradesh & East uttar Pradesh will get 12 Cms. to 20 Cms of rain.
Interior Maharashtra & North Andhra Pradesh will get 3 Cms. to 8 Cms. of rain.
Interior Karnataka will get 2 Cms to 4 Cms. of rain.

Scattered rain for Saurashtra with more rain on coastal regions. 28th June will have good coverage of rainfall with vaying intensity over Saurashtra.

Current Weather Conditions on 25th June 2009 @ 6.30 pm.
Depression reached Sikka area yesterday morning and weakened to a Well Marked Low Pressure. The system slipped to the Gulf of Kutch near Sikka - Okha Area and tracked along the Kutch coast. Currently has re-organised and strengthened to a Depression lying at 22.8N 68.5E about 70 Kms. North West from Dwarka. Convective clouds associated with this system are currently mainly on South of system centre. One quadrant of these clouds is covering the Western most area of Saurashtra viz. Mithapur- Dwarka- Okha vicinity. Winds speeds are 65 Kms./Hour Gusting upto 75Kms./Hour and Heavy rains will be reported from this area.
Note: Normally System from this area tracks North Westwardly direction.
